First Energy Delivered at ALKÜ Solar Power Plant
The ALKÜ Solar Power Plant (GES) project, implemented by Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKÜ) and the first in Turkey to fully meet a university’s electricity needs, has officially begun operation with the delivery of its first energy.
The projects initiated by ALKÜ continue to be completed one by one. As part of its green energy goals, ALKÜ’s Solar Power Plant (GES) project, carried out under Turkey’s first Public Performance Contract in the public sector, aims to cover the entire electricity demand of ALKÜ campuses. Following the delivery of the first energy, the system has been activated.
ALKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmet Türkdoğan, who was abroad for Erasmus Coordination agreements, joined the ceremony via videoconference. The ceremony was also attended by ALKÜ Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kılıç and Prof. Dr. Atıf Bayramoğlu, Head of Construction and Technical Affairs Adem Yavuz Avşar, Deputy General Secretaries Onur Ocakdan and Volkan Avcu, Energy Management Unit Supervisor Lecturer Leyla Akbulut, Volta Energy Board Member Hacı Osman Keleş, along with university and company officials.
Rector Türkdoğan: “Congratulations”
Joining via videoconference, ALKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmet Türkdoğan expressed pride in the project being a pioneering example for Turkey. He emphasized that ALKÜ will continue to lead with large-scale, first-of-its-kind projects. Rector Türkdoğan said, “We are proud to have completed our project, whose first panel was installed last November. Thanks to the GES project, which covers an area equivalent to 13 football fields installed on the university’s roofs and parking lots, the campuses’ entire electricity need will be met. Upon completion, ALKÜ GES will save our university 47 million Turkish lira in energy costs. The project will produce 2.1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. I thank everyone involved, especially our Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Alparslan Bayraktar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Antalya MP Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, officials from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, our university family, and company representatives. We hope our project will serve as an example to the country. Congratulations to our university and our nation.”
After Rector Türkdoğan’s remarks, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Kılıç, Prof. Dr. Bayramoğlu, Unit Supervisor Lecturer Akbulut, and Company Board Member Keleş switched on the first breaker. The ceremony concluded with a prayer and a commemorative photo.
