Thanks to its Solar Power Plant (SPP) installed at the Kestel Campus, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKU) has not only eliminated electricity bills over the past four months but also generated 950,000 TL in revenue.
The solar plant meets 100% of the university’s annual energy demand, which totals 2.1 million kWh, and 30% of the energy produced is sold back to the grid. As a result, ALKU is not only energy self-sufficient but also profits from surplus energy sales.
Spanning an area equivalent to 13 football fields, the project is the first of its kind in Turkey's public sector to be implemented under a Performance-Based Contracting model. With this investment, the university is expected to save 47 million TL annually on energy costs.
Rector Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmet Türkdoğan emphasized that the project brings significant benefits to both the university and the national economy, stating:
“We have become a pioneer of the green transformation.”
He added that ALKU will further expand its investments in solar energy and plans to implement 32 additional energy efficiency measures in the near future.
